When Heidi Broussard (Anna Hopkins), a sweet, churchgoing woman from Austin, tells her long-distance best friend Magen Fieramusca (Emily Osment) that she’s expecting again, she’s delighted to hear that Magen’s also pregnant, with her first baby. The two friends embark on their pregnancy journeys together, sharing updates and pics of their growing bellies. Magen’s so supportive that she even drives from Houston to Austin to be with Heidi when Heidi gives birth. But two weeks after Heidi’s baby is born, things take a dark turn. Both mother and newborn disappear, kicking off a nationwide search. Police investigate Heidi’s last known whereabouts, and when a neighbor tells them that Heidi got into Magen’s car on the day of her disappearance, detectives grow suspicious of Magen. What they uncover is a sinister plot beyond their wildest imaginations. Directed by Michelle Ouellet (The True Heroines), the drama film Stolen Baby: The Murder of Heidi Broussard is based on a real 2019 murder case.

What’s the true story behind Stolen Baby?

Stolen Baby is based on the 2019 murder case of Heidi Broussard. On Dec. 12, 2019, Heidi, along with her 2-week-old newborn, Margot, disappeared after dropping her eldest child off at school. After a weeklong search, investigators discovered Heidi’s body in the trunk of Magen’s car, and found that Heidi had been strangled to death. Police arrested Magen, who had faked her pregnancy with the intention of stealing Margot and passing the child off as her own. Authorities found Heidi’s baby alive and well inside Magen’s Houston home, and promptly returned her to her family. Magen was charged with two counts of kidnapping and one count of tampering with a corpse, then later with capital murder. She pleaded guilty to murder, having strangled Heidi to death, and is currently serving a sentence of 55 years in prison on a reduced charge of first-degree murder.
