If you’re looking for a Virgil (or rather, a Vergil) to guide you through the inferno that is Devil May Cry, look no further. Adi Shankar, the showrunner and executive producer of the animated series from Capcom, has a few things to say about the show and the world he’s created. And don’t worry, he still thinks Dante (voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch) is cool.

Also cool? Evanescence has lent its new single to a lyric video for the series. Check out “Afterlife” above, which features exclusive clips from the show.

Shankar — who was showrunner for Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remixsays he and his development partner Alex Larsen have been working on the series, based on the hit video game, every day since it was first announced in 2018. “Our goal wasn’t just to pump out another animated show. My goal is to make one of the best shows on the Netflix platform — period.”

Shankar partnered with Studio Mir (The Legend of KorraThe Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf), whose portfolio of prior animation work, he says, “speaks for itself.”

His message to excited fans? “Get hyped.” With the series officially renewed for a second season, there’s even more to look forward to.

What is Devil May Cry about?

Sinister forces are at play at the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon hunter for hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck.
